Muhammara is a dip from Turkish cusine. I had my first taste of muhammara at a mediterranean restaurant. This is one of the tastiest and easiest dips you can make, has more flavors than hummus. It goes well with nachos, pita, roti (as a chutney), or you can enjoy the muhammara on its own.
Muhammara calls for one of the rare ingredients - pomegranate molasses. This ingredient is a must. You can find it in an Afghan/middle eastern stores or make it at home. The preparation is quite simple, reduce the pomegranate juice to form a thick syrup on medium flame.
Ingredients
1 large red pepper
1 cup walnuts
3 tbsp almond flour
1 tbsp cumin powder
2 garlic cloves
2 tbsp pomegranate molasses
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt to taste
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp red chili flakes
Directions
1. Wash and cut the red pepper into large pieces, remove the seeds. Roast on a pan until soft.
2. Add all ingredients (once the pepper cools) to a blender and mix to form a coarse paste. Add little water if required.
