Podis are Indian savory snacks typically served with chai. They can be made from a variety of unripe fruits or vegetables like plantain, unripe jackfruit, pumpkin, egg plant, potato. When you are craving for an evening snack, this can be a great healthy choice. You can make them in advance and refrigerate it, shallow fry for few minutes on a hot pan when required.
I love this form of plantain due to its smooth interior texture and crunchy exterior. You can be more creative with the masala (spices) used, try cajun or chipotle southwest to make this dish a fusion. Since it has a combination of all four primary tastes - (hot, sweet, sour and salt) in the right balance, it is one of the most addictive snacks.
Ingredients
2 unripe plantain
2 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp sugar
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Directions
1. Peel the plantains with a peeler. Thinly slice the plantains
3. On a hot pan, place the plantains one by one. Flip after 5-6 minutes on medium flame to get a little char on both sides. Sprinkle some water and close with a lid. This is an important trick to fully bake the plantain.
